POEMS: Predictive mOdelling for hEalthcare technology through MathS

The POEMS network arose from an EPSRC sandpit on Predictive Modelling for Healthcare Through Maths, held in September 2012. It is funded from 2013-2017 by a grant from the EPSRC.

The overarching aim of the network is to enable new collaborative links to be developed between individuals and groups, and across disciplines.

Our specific objectives are to:

  • Connect and grow the UK research community by forming new, inclusive, and cross disciplinary collaborations in which EPS academics work together with end users including clinicians, healthcare providers, and industry, to develop novel predictive models for healthcare technologies, linking with with existing activity.
  • Develop and foster a programme of transformative and translational research by identifying specific opportunities for novel predictive models, and bringing new ideas and perspectives from themathematics and computational communities to bear on clinical practice.
  • Communicate the vision of predictive models and the importance of mathematics to academia, end-users and the general public through outreach activities.
